Lagunazo (waltz)

"Lagunazo" is part of a complex series of Venezuelan waltzes by composer Alex Rodríguez, who has developed, in the last two decades, a catalog particularly dedicated to solo guitar, which also includes concerts for guitar and orchestra, as well as string quartets with guitar A singular example is "Lagunazo", in which the peculiar rhythmic sense of the most precious Venezuelan popular form exploits, which differs from the European one, mainly because of its syncopations and hemiolas. It is also characterized by a strong melos, which evokes the expressiveness of the song. Here, this valse is executed by the composer himself. Rodriguez, thus, is installed in the best Latin American tradition, being a direct heir of Antonio Lauro and Agustín Barrios Mangoré, because like them, he is also able to interpret his works. "Lagunazo" serves as a preview of the CD in which it will include its own versions of its catalog, and will be released in 2020.
